The North American Day School Conference will be held March 8-10, 2015 at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel.
We are honored that two of our teachers will be presenters at this year’s conference-
Leslie Kornsgold will address the audience describing the integration of iPad technology into the curriculum at Abrams; and
Amy Hamacher will present with Orit Hazzan, professor at The Technion in Israel, discussing our cutting edge middle school science curriculum that was developed in collaboration with faculty at The Technion.

AHA 8th grade students visited seniors at the Abrams Residence to celebrate Tu B’Shvat. The students and seniors made a holiday-themed craft project together, shared fruit snacks, and simply had fun interacting with one another. The visit concluded with the seniors offering their insights about how to lead a successful life- they recommended optimism, not being afraid to pursue one’s dream, and following a path that leads to doing the right thing- words of wisdom, indeed!
Interview with a Nobel Prize-winning Scientist
AHA Students and Science Interviews
Eden Shavit (5th grade) took her science project assignment seriously. The task was to write a report about a scientist, and she decided that she wanted to write about a female scientist from Israel.
Her quest led her to Dr. Ada E. Yonath, a scientist at the Weizmann Institute who won a Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009. Dr. Yonath’s work has revolutionized the field of structural biology and has given it wide-ranging applications, particularly in the development and design of new antibiotics.
Eden was thrilled that Dr. Yonath responded to her email, and they communicated back and forth so that Eden could write her report about this impressive woman in science. Eden says that her interactions with Dr. Yonath and hearing about her humble beginnings showed her that you can succeed coming from any walk of life. Additionally, Eden says that she has more inspiration to pursue a career in science now that she has formed this relationship with Dr. Yonath.
As further evidence that our students are being inspired by science, Eden’s older sister Maya (6th grade) is trying to arrange a video chat with another woman scientist- kudos to Eden, Maya, and our science teacher, Amy Hamacher!
